73) A really very nice original early pattern British officers private purchase compass and fitted case. The compass has no dates of markings but is clearly early in style and comes with a early leather covered fitted case so most likely Boer war. The compass is in excellent working order and is pretty much perfect apart from age related dirt and marks to the case. it works perfectly. It is pretty much like new condition. The case is of lovely quality leather covered wood with lovely soft padded interiour and clearly the correct case for this compass. The outside shows surface wear but would polish up well. The hinge has come away from the casew and needs some work to fix it. When put together the case closes nicely and the front catch works fine but the opening puch knob is missing. a really very nice example.
