67) Very Nice Original WW1 British Made Brodie Helmet With US 6th Infantry Div Insignia. A very nice 100% British made WW1 Brodie helmet inside and out. This is one of the early examples issued to US forces before they started to manufacture their own. The outside is excellent with original rough textured finish along with minor dings and dents from its service life. It has a faint red 6 pointed star to the front which is for the US 6th Infantry Division. The inside shell is excellent with British makers mark "HS". It is nicely hand marked in 2 places around the rim with the soldiers service number of "1299180". so could be researched!. This is 100% period added. The leather chinstrap is good and strong but does show some surface cracking and minor dryness but nothing that a good polish would not clean up. The right hand brass attachment holding the 2 parts of leather together has gone and been replaced with a steel part. This has done well and is clearly an old repair. The liner oil cloth is near perfect with nice red Brodie steel helmet stamp to the underside. The netting etc is all excellent. The central orange fur felt type padding is in place and good. The rubber donut ring can still be felt underneath this. When lifting the side of the lining and looking underneath it can be seen that there is quite a bit of loss to the fur/felt material around the edges. This only shows if looking under the edges of the liner (see photos). A very nice as found example with scope for research.
