WW1 Leather Mess Tin Strap? Marked 2nd Vol Battalion Sussex Regt

An original WW1 era leather equipment strap marked to the 2^nd voluntary battalion the Sussex regiment, the strap has a large adjustable buckle to one end and a belt loop to the side with a quick release knob, we believe that this would possibly fit around the D-shaped mess tins or maybe cavalry tins but do not currently have any to try it on so cannot guarantee this, the strap is in excellent condition and of heavy duty construction, it measures 22 ½ inches from end to end.
