An original WW1 French army bayonet model 1886/1916 in around 1915-1916 the existing 1886 bayonets had their hooked quillons removed and all future bayonets were produced without one. This one is a lovely clean example the grips are excellent and have never been cleaned or polished and have a nice aged patina, they don’t seem to be of brass or the polished chrome type so not sure what type of metal they are from? The locking mechanism is perfect and all metal parts have a nice age patina to them with a few minor surface rust patches, The blade is its original length 20 ½ inches and excellent and is the usual 4 edged cruciform type. The scabbard is excellent and retains much of its original finish with some ancient surface rust spots which are not bad and blend in nicely.
